For decades these were hardware industries, built slowly by incumbents. The edge has moved to software, autonomy and speed, and the old players are too slow to keep pace. We back the companies rebuilding these fields from the code up. The next chapter of these industries will be written, not manufactured.
Food, aviation, chemicals, insurance. The things nobody writes about are often the things that quietly pay for everything else. They rarely trend, but they endure, and durable cash flows compound in a way that hype never does. It is why we hold established operating businesses alongside the venture names. We are happy to be early to the future and unfashionable in the present at the same time.
The largest gaps in finance are not at the top of the market, they are in the millions of businesses and people the incumbents never served well. Build the rails for them, banking, payments, credit, and you do not just capture a market, you help an economy grow. We back the infrastructure, not the noise.
Culture is usually treated as ephemeral, but the things a generation genuinely values, its brands, its collectibles, its rituals, tend to appreciate rather than fade. Held with discipline, culture behaves like any other asset class. The skill is telling durable culture from a passing trend, and holding the former.
Most investors only choose from what already exists. We are as comfortable founding as funding: when we see a gap and the thing we want is not there, we build it ourselves. Some of our strongest positions are the ones we created. It keeps us close to the work, and honest about how hard building actually is.
Most capital is impatient, forced to show returns on someone else's clock. We answer to no such clock. That lets us hold through the quiet stretches, back the slow-compounding businesses others cannot, and move decisively when impatience creates a mispricing. Time is not just something we have. It is an edge we use.
